Find \(\frac{d y}{d x}\) of the following functions:
(i) x = ct, y = \(\frac{c}{t}\)
(ii) x = log t, y = sin t
(iii) x = a cos³θ, y = a sin³θ
(iv) x = a(θ – sin θ), y = a(1 – cos θ)
Solution:
(i) x = ct, y = \(\frac{c}{t}\)

(ii) x = log t, y = sin t

(iii) x = a cos³θ, y = a sin³θ

(iv) x = a(θ – sin θ), y = a(1 – cos θ)

Question 2.
Differentiate sin³x with respect to cos³x.
Solution:
Let u = sin³x = (sin x)³ ; v = cos³x = (cos x)³
\(\frac{d u}{d x}\) = 3(sin x) cos x ; \(\frac{d v}{d x}\) = 3(cos x)² (-sin x)

Question 3.
Differentiate sin²x with respect to x².
Solution:
Let u = (sin x)² ; v = x²
\(\frac{d u}{d x}\) = (2 sin x) (cos x) = sin 2x ; \(\frac{d v}{d x}\) = 2x
